On the lines of Centre’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) got its own city disaster response force (CDRF), which will be responsible in carrying out relief and rescue operations during calamities. The CDRF, a part of BMC’s disaster management cell, will consist of 200 jawans from the civic body security force, 20 medical officers, fire brigade officials and BMC disaster management cell.

BMC ’s disaster management cell inaugurated the training program on Tuesday at the hands of additional commissioner I A Kundan.

This team would be an ideal team for the country. I hope that the CDRF team will fulfill his obligation and will stand out as a competent team in a country,” I A Kundan, Additional Commissioner, BMC.

The CDRF jawans will be trained to tackle chemical, biological, nuclear or atomic attacks, first response medical training, the rescue of people during building collapses, floods etc. They will also be trained in relief and rescue operations for earthquake and other natural and man-made disasters.

NDRF officials will impart training to CDRF officials, who will be deployed in all 24 administrative wards. These officials will also participate in mock drills in disaster management with other agencies.
