The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued fresh guidelines in order to contain a potential third wave of the coronavirus ahead of festivity amid concerns over emerging Omicron cases in the state and city.

Meanwhile, this comes at a time when the tally of Omicron infections in the state of Maharashtra has risen to 54.

Mumbai civic body has urged people to avoid crowding and follow COVID-19 guidelines. Moreover, commissioner Iqbal Chahal has appealed people to avoid gatherings on Christmas and New Year. However, a strict action will be taken against those found violating the rules by the squads deployed at the ward level. It also reiterated adhering to rules during weddings and other ceremonies.

Here are the revised guidelines:

  • In closed spaces, people up to 50% capacity allowed.
  • In open spaces, people up to 25% capacity allowed.
  • If a gathering with over 1,000 people is planned, prior permission of Local Disaster Management Authority is must.
  • The civic body also said that full vaccination of all employees functioning at public places or establishments as well as all attendees at events or ceremonies is mandatory.
  • Action will be taken against the establishment if the COVID-related protocols are found to be violated, it said. Besides, action will be taken if staff functioning at public places or establishments as well as attendees at events, ceremonies are found to be not fully vaccinated as it is must.
  • Wear mask properly and get fully vaccinated.

Mumbai Police earlier imposed section 144 CrPC in Mumbai up to midnight on New Year's eve.

In addition, Chahal warned those celebrities and eminent personalities who have an influence on society, to act accordingly and be aware of issues.
