Mumbai: BMC Launches Helpline To Report Abandoned Vehicles

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has appointed contractors to identify abandoned, broken and scrapped vehicles parked on the roadside and dispose of them as per the rules. Mumbaikars can also report abandoned vehicles. If they notice vehicles lying abandoned on public roads for a long period of time, citizens should report them to the contractor's number along with a photograph of the vehicle and Google location.

Also, the civic body administration is appealing to register a complaint online at number 1916 or on the Municipal Corporation's website https://www.mcgm.gov.in.

The administration's objective is not just to take punitive action, but to remove roadblocks as a matter of priority. The municipal corporation issues a notice on an abandoned vehicle. If the vehicle owner fails to remove the vehicle from the public road within 72 hours of the notice being issued, the vehicle is being 'towed' and taken to the contractor's yard.

Also, this vehicle is being disposed of after 30 days. No claim can be made regarding it. Therefore, if the vehicle that has been towed and deposited in the yard is desired, the vehicle owners are requested to pay the fine amount due within 30 days.
