The major reason behind the commisioner’s step to call back the employees is due to the lack of manpower in the BMC itself. It was noticed that the deputation sent to SRA would not return even after the contract period was over and so the commisioner reached the decision.

Recently, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) directed all its officers and employees who were sent on deputation to Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) to return back to the Municipal Corporation. Municipal Commisioner, Ajoy Mehta issued an order which forbid any more officers from joining the deputation at SRA.

All the slum redevelopment projects in Mumbai are conducted by SRA. Since SRA lacked the manpower initially, it had approached BMC, MHADA, Co-operative department, District Collectorate office for deputation, where clerks and peons were also included.

The civic body has called off five of the clerks and peons immediately at BMC whereas has issued orders for the remaining peons and clerks to return back as soon as their work is completed.

Earlier, BMC used to organise examinations for sending engineers in the deputation and the recruitment of clerks and office boys would happen by lottery system. However, Ajoy Mehta has now ordered all the respective officers, engineers, peons and clerks to return back at BMC after their period of contract is over.

The commisioner has asked SRA to arrange necessary officials by themselves since BMC would not send any officers, clerks or office boys from now.

When Mumbai Live contacted municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta, he confirmed that the employees of the corporation would not be sent back to the place after the deputation's contract period would be completed and SRA will have to arrange for the employees there.

The major reason behind the commisioner’s step to call back the employees is due to the lack of manpower in the BMC itself. It was noticed that the deputation sent to SRA would not return even after the contract period was over and so the commisioner reached the decision.

Since SRA is an authority, all the people of deputation cannot be called at once but they will have to return as soon as the contract is over.
