The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had announced parking fines in June where they would charge ₹10,000 for parking in no parking zone. However, Mumbaikars can now breathe a sigh of relief as BMC has revised the majority of its fines.

It will now charge up to ₹4,000 for illegal parking within 500 metres of a public parking lot in the city, and up to ₹8,000 for illegal parking on five arterial roads, which were marked as no-parking zones last year. Further, it has also announced that there will be a parking fee of ₹100 in Public Parking Lots (PPL) for six to 12 hours which will be the base fees.

Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi had announced the parking laws without consulting the Mumbai Parking Authority (MPA) wherein they expressed their discontent. After a meeting with them on Monday, January 6, Praveen Pardeshi announced that the fines will be reduced. He further stated that they are working on levying the parking fine proportionate to the hours of illegal parking. This means that ₹4,000 and ₹8,000 will be the minimum and maximum fine respectively that will be imposed, and can vary depending on the hours.

There are 146 parking spaces in Mumbai. In order to assist the people to find Public Parking Lots (PPLs) with ease, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had further started a facility on the MCGM 24x7 application. With this, people can find the nearest public parking lot at a finger's reach as the mobile application will guide the people and provide them with directions.

Along with this, the application will also provide information on its timings, parking fees and types of vehicles that can be parked. The PPLs that can be located include the BMC-owned ones along with the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) depots.
