The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) removed 4,751 illegal banners and posters during a special drive conducted last week. Of these, 80 percent were religious banners.
The number of illegal banners increases the most in the city during the festive season. There was filth in the city during the Ganeshotsav celebrated from September 19 to 28. Following the instructions of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the civic body conducted a special drive from October 1 to 7.
A team from the licensing department was asked to inspect even at night and remove illegal banners. However, the civic team of the licensing department is reluctant to take action as they face the wrath of political party workers.
