COVID-19: No More Mandatory Quarantine for UAE Passengers Arriving in Mumbai

Earlier, the BMC had mandated compulsory 7-day quarantine and RT-PCR test on arrival for passengers arriving from the UAE. These passengers will also have to undertake an RT-PCR test at the airport irrespective of them being fully vaccinated at arrival.

As the COVID-19 cases see a drop in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has withdrawn the additional restrictions that it mandated for passengers flying to the city from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including Dubai.

This decision was taken in a virtual meeting of the civic officials where it was discussed that Mumbai seems to have reached its peak of the third wave.

Releasing its revised orders, the civic body in an official statement mentioned: "No special SOP henceforth will be applicable for passengers coming from UAE, including Dubai. Guidelines applicable to international travellers arriving from countries other than countries at-risk will be made applicable to travellers arriving from UAE."

The new rules will be applicable from January 17, the civic body said.

Prior to this, the civic body had made one week of home quarantine compulsory for all travellers coming back from Dubai only. Moreover, fully vaccinated travellers weren't required to undertake an RT-PCR test on arrival at the airport.

The daily cases of Mumbai reached the peak of over 20,000 in January and since then, cases have been coming down. On Sunday, January 16, Mumbai reported 7,895 infections.
