BMC Shuts Byculla Zoo And Public Parks

Dr. Bhau Daji Lad (BDL) Museum which is located near the zoo and Priyadarshini Park in Malabar Hill will also be shut.

Amid the coronavirus outbreak in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that the recently revamped Byculla zoo will be closed from March 15. The decision to re-open will be made only after the State Government takes a final call. 

Talking about the same, Byculla zoo officials stated that considering that they received basic precautionary guidelines from the Central Zoo Authority, they have decided to shut the zoo. There are no specific guidelines as such for the zoo animals, but they are going to take all steps concerning the hygiene that has to be maintained. 

Dr. Bhau Daji Lad (BDL) Museum which is located near the zoo will also be shut. Moreover, several parks and gardens will also be closed. Priyadarshini Park authorities have decided that they will shut the park from today i.e. Monday, March 16. The BMC has further directed schools, colleges, and coaching institutes to also remain shut. All malls, gyms, sports complex, cinema halls will remain shut till March 31.

As of March 16, Maharashtra is the worst hit in India with 32 positive cases. The BMC hospitals claim that they are ready to handle situations, in case of an emergency. More than a 100 beds have been arranged and kept in isolation wards at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, KB Bhabha Hospital in Bandra, KB Bhabha Municipal Hospital in Kurla and Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care in Jogeshwari. Seven Hills Hospital too has prepared a 300-bed quarantine facility. 

Additionally, 24 health teams consisting of six members are deployed at every ward to monitor patients who may show symptoms of Coronavirus. Two teams will be deployed at the international airport to monitor the situation around the clock. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope stated that another laboratory will be set up at KEM hospital in the next two days and new laboratories will also come up at JJ Hospital.
