With the number of active coronavirus cases being on a rise in the city every day, the need for ICU beds has also increased.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is touted to meet the shortage and start with 250 beds at its jumbo COVID-19 centres this week. The beds are to be located at BKC, Mahalaxmi, the NSCI Dome in Worli, the Nesco centre in Goregaon and the Richardson and Cruddas centre in Mulund.

Moreover, as per data shared by the civic body, the number of active cases in the city has risen over 30 per cent in a fortnight. Over the last two days, the city has reported over 1,500 cases every day.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra, in the last 24 hours has clocked 23,350 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally to 9,07,212. The positivity rate, recovery rate, and fatality rate for the coronavirus in the state stand at 19.52 per cent, 71.03 per cent, and 2.93 per cent respectively.

Currently, there are 2,35,857 active cases in the state. With 7,826 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 6,44,400. Mumbai, on the other hand, clocked 1,910 fresh cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the COVID-19 tally in the city to 1,55,622.
