In a recently held meeting, the newly formed Mumbai Art, Music and Culture Commission’s (MAMCC) suggested the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to give a platform for various artists to perform.

Acting on the suggestion, officials from the municipal corporation have decided to turn its amphitheatres into gardens and open auditoriums. Keeping the same in mind, the BMC has shortlisted 28 gardens that have amphitheatres with seating arrangements for over 4,200 people, which will be converted for events and performances.

In order to make these amphitheatres ready for artistic events, the BMC’s garden department has now taken up the maintenance and cleanliness work. Superintendent of Gardens, Jeetendra Pardesi, said that they have presented this list to MAMCC for approval and will soon open this place for artists.

Further, the team is also in a discussion with MAMCC regarding the registration and fees. Once it is finalised, artists will be able to apply in the garden department for permission.

Back in the month of October, the MAMCC had asked the BMC to identify places where urban art squares can be set up.
