Mumbai had received adequate rainfall this year and all of the lakes providing water to the city had been filled to their maximum capacity. Despite this, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently announced a 10 per cent water cut across Mumbai for a week.

The Municipal Corporation has decided to impose a 10 per cent water cut across the island city from December 3 to December 9 owing to major repairs at the Pise Panjarapur water plant in Bhiwandi in Thane district.

Repairs of the pneumatic gates of Pise Pumping Station will be undertaken as part of maintenance work. It was found that there was an air leakage in the gates that needs to be fixed,” a senior civic official from the hydraulic department told Hindustan Times.

Meanwhile, the civic body has already asked the residents to store a day's water in reserve to avoid inconvenience during this tenure. BMC has also stated that along with the water cut, some areas in Mumbai may have to face additional issues as water will be released at low pressure in these areas.
