In a major development, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will help divyang persons buy electric cycles.

In addition, the civic body also plans to provide financial aid to divyangs under the state government’s scheme for poverty alleviation.

They can start small businesses like selling cold drinks, vegetables, biscuits, vada pavs with the help of electric cycles, said an official from the planning department.

A proposal for direct bank transfer to divyangs for buying e-cycles will be tabled during the standing committee meeting. The scheme will cover those having 40 per cent or more disability. To avail the scheme, the beneficiaries should be residents of Mumbai and their annual income should not be more than INR 3 lakhs.

Besides, for fast response and easy access in congested areas, Mumbai Fire Brigade is gearing up to receive 24 fire bikes for firefighting in the city. A proposal of INR 3.15 crores will be tabled before the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) standing committee for approval on Wednesday, October 27.

This comes as the city has been witnessing lot of fire incidents since the past few weeks.

The delivery partners of all e-commerce, food aggregator and delivery platforms can use these electric two-wheelers operated by Chartered Bikes.

The delivery partners can use these bikes e-bikes even without a valid driving license, stated reports. The speed limit of these e-bikes is restricted to 25 km per hour.
