Gearing up for a probable third wave, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is prepared to purchase 5,000 vials of a cocktail drug that is used in the treatment of coronavirus patients. Each vial costs Rs 1.2 lakh; thus, the civic authority is anticipated to incur expenditure worth Rs 60cr on the purchase, mentioned a report by the Times of India.

Since the end of May, many hospitals throughout the island city have commenced using monoclonal antibodies. Within civic-run hospitals, where it is given without any cost, Andheri’s SevenHills Hospital has provided it to the greatest number of patients. One vial of the cocktail drug comprises two doses but considering that a patient needs only one, the civic authority’s actual expenditure for a patient is estimated to be around Rs 60,000.
Additional Municipal Commissioner (Health), Suresh Kakani elaborated on how they have received positive results through the cocktail. Given to many patients at the SevenHills Hospital, they have responded well, he added, that they are finishing the complete process and have made things ready. Considering that at present patient numbers are low, orders aren’t being placed currently. But if the numbers increase, orders for 5,000 vials will be placed in a phased manner, he mentioned, highlighted the account.

It is also stated that back in October 2020, when former US President Donald Trump had tested positive, the cocktail was administered to him.
