The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to attain coronavirus vaccines worth Rs 2.2cr through the corporate social responsibility (CSR) branch from three firms in order to augment the inoculation drive in slums, reported the Times of India. This comes amidst reports of the civic authority administering over 2.5 million vaccines, helping them set a new record in September.
Ajanta Pharma and World Trade Centre donated Rs 1cr each to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and civic chief Iqbal Singh Chahal, on Thursday, to help the vaccination drive in slums. Apart from this, Dr Gautam Bhansali Golden Hour Foundation committed Rs 25 lakh, stated the report.
Suresh Kakani, the additional municipal commissioner elaborated that Ajanta Pharma and World Trade Centre have collaborated with private hospitals who will purchase the vaccines and give them to the civic authority. Adding that the infrastructure and manpower will be provided by the civic authority and vaccines by them. Dr Bhansali mentioned that their motive was to add speed to the vaccination numbers in the city. He elucidated that they will focus on those areas where there persists hesitancy, with students and young medical graduates being asked for help, stated the account.
Through CSR funds, Bombay Hospital will purchase the vaccines and give them to the BMC, adding that considering the funds have come, the activities may commence in 3-4 days.
