The residents of the area are suffering from air pollution due to the blowing of dust on the Dadar Shivaji Park grounds. To control this dust, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is taking steps to revive the green cover of the ground by planting grass in response to these complaints.

For this, it has decided to remove the soil from the field along with installing a smog tower. The BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has approved the proposal in this regard. These measures are to be implemented only after the consultant's report on the proposal.

Shivaji Park, a 28-acre open ground in Dadar, Central Mumbai, is a popular spot for sports enthusiasts, joggers, and political rallies due to its central location.

Over the years, the ground has faced deterioration, with the grass covering wearing away, leaving loose red soil that easily displaces and causes dust pollution. Residents have raised concerns about the red-dust issue, prompting the civic authorities to address the problem.

Shivaji Park ground has many clubs and pitches where cricket practices and matches are held. Also, many people come to the park to take a walk in the morning and evening.

To counteract dust pollution, the BMC plans to appoint a consultant responsible for planting grass on the ground’s surface.

Additionally, sprinklers will be installed to ensure regular watering of the topsoil, preventing dust displacement.

At the end of October, a meeting of municipal officials, MP Rahul Shewale and MNS leaders was held with MNS President Raj Thackeray. He had suggested options like planting grass in some areas of Shivaji Park along with the smog tower.

The demand of the residents to reduce the red soil in the field is also getting stronger. However, if this soil is reduced, it is predicted that there will be pits in the field.
