BMC to restore Khotachiwadi in Girgaon by December

Along with restoring gaothan’s internal road i.e. 750 metres, drains will be restored, the cobble pathway, and more space will be alloted to access each home

In December, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will begin the delayed restoration work of 200-year-old Khotachiwadi near Girgaon. On Friday, the civic body floated tender for the project which will be carried out in phases.  

Initially, the restoration work was scheduled to begin post-monsoon but got stuck due to financial constraints. Under the restoration work, gaothan’s internal road i.e. 750 metres will be restored. Along with this, drains and the cobble pathway will be restored and more space will be alloted to access each home.

Vishwas More, Assistant Commissioner of D ward informed that the project was stuck due to budget constraints but now it has finally been approved with an estimated cost of ₹19 lakh. He added that in the first phase, Khotachiwadi’s entrance will be decorated with a green canopy and an art installation.
