The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to release a request for proposals for a mumbai parking interface software. This software will create a central database of all parking facilities in the city, making it easier for residents to find parking alternatives provided by the BMC and other organisations.

The interface will include information about parking spots at various locations in the city, such as Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) depots, shopping centers, public parking lots, and off-street and on-street parking lots.

Citizens will be able to reserve these parking spaces at any of the facilities using the interface. The app will also connect with residential and business properties that want to make their parking lots available to drivers passing through nearby neighborhoods.

The database will include parking facilities from various state and local organizations in the city. The Mumbai Parking Authority (MPA) has spoken with various organizations about connecting their parking facilities with the centralized database.

Civic body and MPA authorities have also been in contact with residential and commercial complexes as well as organisations that provide parking spaces. The BMC will set an upper limit or cap on the fees, but other organisations are free to fix their parking tariffs independently.

The program will function as a parking lot aggregator service that enlists the support of numerous organisations and all parking lots. This will be a dynamic software that is open source. The BMC will use parking money for parking infrastructure, bettering public transportation, and increasing pedestrian facilities.

The establishment of the MPA is also included in the budget paper. The parking authority will organise, control, and manage all on-and off-street parking as well as all public parking spaces. The authority will also establish and enforce parking fines and fees for different zones and areas.

Out of the 32 public parking lots given to the BMC, 29 are currently being run by contractors. However, the BMC has declared that its parking infrastructure will be the first of its kind in India.
