Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has added two more wards to its study in order to figure out how some of the wards under its jurisdiction has a lesser number of coronavirus cases.

According to reports, D ward (Malabar Hill, Grant Road) and H-west (Bandra, Khar Road), which have the majority of the population living in highrises, will also be part of the study.

Earlier, after COVID-19 cases started dipping in the city following the second wave, the BMC decided to take up a study of four wards – B (Dongari, Umarkhadi), C (Marine Lines, Bhuleshwar), M-east (Govandi, Mankhurd) and L (Kurla, Sakinaka). Moreover, the civic body of Mumbai is also taking help from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay for the study and database.

On the other hand, the BMC has claimed that it is prepared to face the third wave of coronavirus infection, which is likely to arrive soon. In addition, BMC said it is preparing for the worst-case scenario, and ramping up its infrastructure urgently, stocking up medicines needed for critical care, and ramping up its oxygen production, and supply network.

In a release, the civic body stated that required medical facilities -- beds at various hospitals, Jumbo Covid Centres, and Covid Care Centres are ready for the treatment of patients -- have been put in place to deal with a surge in cases. It further mentioned that separate wards for children and pregnant women are being set up in all hospitals and medical colleges as well as Jumbo centres.
