The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has commenced the work to build six new swimming pools in the city.

As per reports, the work on pools at Malad and Dahisar is nearing completion. Of these two, the BMC will take one of the state government and another of the Fire Brigade. They will be opened by next month and the membership registration will start accordingly.

The pools at Malad and Dahisar will have a capacity to host over 1,600 members per year, with an annual fee of around INR 8,000. The BMC had spent INR 17 crore on the construction of these two pools.

The BMC had undertaken work to build six new swimming pools — Worli Hill Reservoir, Chacha Nehru Garden in Malad West, Indira Gandhi Entertainment Park in Andheri West, Kondivita in Andheri East, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj Kridangan, Tagore Nagar, Vikhroli East, Gyandhara Garden in Dahisar — owing to the growing demand for membership.

Meanwhile, the pools at Worli and Andheri (East) will be ready by May 2023, reports stated.

In addition, the civic body will also open the swimming pool at Mumbai Fire Brigade, Wadala, for the public. The repair work is going on and it will be handed over to the BMC by April.

Besides, they have also initiated the process to take over a swimming pool at Kamgar Krida Bhavan in Parel, which is under the state government. Availability of these two pools will ease the load of Dadar swimming pools, said officials.

BMC’s swimming pools are always in demand, as it offers services at affordable rates.
