Bridges in Mumbai have suddenly received attention from officials after a foot over bridge collapsed near CSMT station. In a relief for the citizens, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared that they will begin the repair work of 16 bridges across the city. The development comes after the BMC Standing Committee approved the proposal to repair the 16 bridges.

Earlier, the structural audit was conducted by D.D. Desai Engineering Corporation. However, the audit of Himalaya Bridge was conducted by Neeraj Desai's company which recently collapsed. Due to which, all the political parties opposed his nomination for the re-assessment of the bridges. Accordingly, all the 73 bridges that were audited by Desai's company, were re-audited by BMC engineers.

Earlier, Mumbai Police arrested two engineers appointed by the BMC, who were responsible for the structural audit of the bridge – BMC Structural Auditor Neeraj Kumar Desai and BMC Assistant Engineer SF Kakulte. In the Himalaya bridge incident, six people lost their lives while 36 people were injured. Since Desai has been blacklisted from auditing bridges, the municipal corporation has removed his name from the proposal for repairing the bridges.

Here are the bridges that will be repaired:

Grant Road Railway bridge, Opera House bridge, French bridge, Gloria Church flyover, Falkland Road, SVP Road Railway bridge, Y.M. flyover, Sitaram Selam Y bridge flyover, Eastern freeway, P D'Mello FOB, Dockyard Road FOB, Princess Street FOB.
