In a recent meeting that was held by the Standing Committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday, September 11, a proposal for the reconstruction of bridges was approved.

According to Chief Engineer (BMC) Sanjay Darade, the work for the construction will start once they receive a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the respective area's traffic department. The restoration work was postponed due to monsoon and Ganesh Chaturthi. There have been 7 bridges listed which need urgent restoration and includes Princess Bridge at Nariman Point and Breach Candy bridge are expected to be open for public by 2020. The project is expected to cost ₹95.42 crores.
After CSMT's Himalaya Bridge collapsed earlier in 2019, the BMC had conducted a structural audit on bridges across Mumbai. The BMC had further sent a notice to Ganpati Mandals stating that they shouldn't take their visarjan process on the bridges which are in dilapidated condition.
