In view of the COVID-19 situation in Mumbai, a circular was issued by Bombay High Court stating that the High Court and its subordinate courts will continue to hear only extremely urgent matters until further orders.

Further, certain precautionary guidelines have also been issued for all the Courts in the State of Maharashtra, the State of Goa and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu to guard against the spread of COVID-19.

The decision comes after Bombay HC Chief Justice Deepankar Dutta and the judges in the administrative committee held a meeting on Monday. Following the meeting, a circular was issued and guideline for other High Courts were also issued.

As per the circular, all the central and state employees must take all the necessary precautions mentioned in the guidelines issued by the Centre. The circular also mandated the use of masks while entering the High Court and forbade the entry without masks. 

Alongside, concerned officials have been directed to arrange for visitors' registers and hand sanitisers at all the entry points for the court. All the visitors must mandatorily enter their name while coming to the court. Also, people exhibiting the symptoms of COVID-19 will not be allowed to enter court premises.

The circular also directed all Advocates and staff will install the Arogya Setu app. The staff has also been asked to maintain the necessary social distancing during Court business. In case the lift is being used in the premises, not more than fifty per cent of the capacity would be allowed at a time. Alongside, all members except the differently-abled have been asked to make use of stairs for their own safety.
