Soon, the people of Mumbai will be able to see leopards along with jackals at Byculla Zoo (Jijamata Udyan). The animals have been brought in from Pilikula zoo in Mangalore and the visitors will be able to see them June onwards.
Meanwhile, the authorities are currently completing the work on the enclosure to hold these animals, which is expected to be done within a month.
"A pair of leopards and jackals were brought to Mumbai on April 28. The male leopard, aged two, has been named Drogone and the female Pinto. Till the time the cage work gets completed, they will be kept in a quarantine centre," Zoo Director Sanjay Tripathi told Mumbai Mirror.
The zoo has once again become a centre of attraction after the arrival of Humboldt penguins that were brought in August 2017. It is also said that by the end of May, a pair of lions will also be brought to Jijamata Udyan.
Meanwhile, the Zoo authorities have approached the Central Zoo for permission for a lion.
