On Sunday, November 11, 2018, Byculla zoo received a record number of visitors — the weekend after Diwali — and collected ₹7.1 lakh as entry fee after issuing 18,731 tickets. The previous day that is on Saturday, they issued 15,743 tickets and raked in ₹6.1 lakh. Last year, the highest earning on single a day during the Diwali holidays was ₹6.6 lakh.
One of the zoo officials said that they had to turn away nearly 2000 people and only allowed those who were standing in the queue.

Sanjay Tripathi, Director, Byculla zoo, said that on Friday, more than 9,000 people visited; so they called in extra security staff as they expected more crowd during the weekend. Likewise, on Sunday, they issued 18,731 tickets, the highest ticket sales in a day.
