The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the upcoming festivals and to prevent the spreading of coronavirus amid the celebrations. The government, however, has restricted festive activities in the containment zones.

The SOPs have been issued to focus on the need to take preventive measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 during the festive season between October and December. Apart from complying with the thermal screening and ensuring social distancing, the government has asked those who would organise events to prepare a detailed site plan and ensure minimum crowds.

Large gatherings are often witnessed during the festival season which includes religious events, cultural functions. According to the guidelines issued by the government, the planning of events should be done keeping in mind that crowds are regulated and social distancing is practised.

The limitation on physical numbers would have to be imposed for events which last for days or weeks. Keeping the timings staggered for events and restricting entry may be considered, the guidelines read while adding that monitoring of social distancing norms should be done.

Touching idols shouldn’t be allowed in religious places and seating arrangements for the events should be made ensuring physical distancing, according to the guidelines.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has said that the daily number of coronavirus cases in the country has been declining. When compared to cases in previous weeks and the number of discharged patients, Bhushan said that there was a decline in the positivity rate as well.

Talking about Maharashtra, he said that 48 per cent of total deaths in India have been reported from 25 districts of eight states. Of the 25 districts, 15 are in Maharashtra, Bhushan informed.
