From the beginning of the new financial year, several banks, including HDFC Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), and Bandhan Bank, have introduced changes to ATM withdrawal rules that will directly affect customers’ daily transactions. One of the most significant updates is that UPI-based ATM withdrawals (without a debit card) will now count toward the monthly free transaction limit.
Customers typically get a certain number of free transactions each month around five at their own bank’s ATMs and three in metro cities or five in non-metro cities at other banks’ ATMs. Exceeding this limit will incur a fee of INR 23 per transaction. PNB has also reduced daily withdrawal limits on some debit cards from INR 1,00,000 to INR 50,000 and from INR 1,15,000 to INR 75,000. Bandhan Bank has set a similar structure, offering five free financial transactions at its own ATMs, with fees for additional or failed transactions.
Customers are now advised to monitor their monthly transaction count, check their card limits, and plan ATM usage carefully to avoid unnecessary charges. UPI withdrawals can be completed by scanning a QR code on a mobile device, and banks recommend using digital methods for larger transactions.
