According to KDMC officials, the decision was taken following state government directives to ensure sufficient water reserves are maintained until at least August 31, 2026, amid concerns that the monsoon could be delayed this year due to the possible impact of El Niño.
Under the revised schedule, water supply in Kalyan, Dombivli, and surrounding areas will remain completely suspended for 24 hours from midnight Monday to midnight Tuesday each week. During this period, all pumping stations and water treatment plants at Barave, Netivali, Mohili, and Titwala will remain shut.
KDMC currently receives around 347 million litres of water daily from the Barvi Dam for Kalyan and Dombivli, while nearby MIDC and rural areas receive additional supply. Officials said the growing population and uncertain rainfall pattern have increased pressure on existing water resources.
Civic authorities warned that low-pressure water supply may continue even after restoration and appealed to residents to store adequate water in advance.
The region has already been facing severe water shortages, with several areas relying on tanker supply. Reports indicate that KDMC spends over INR 11 crore annually on water tankers to manage shortages in different parts of the city.
