In what seems like a double whammy for Mumbaikars, CNG and PNG prices are set to go up in the city. The common people were still reeling from the soaring prices of fuel. Now CNG and PNG prices would go up marginally. Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) that supplies piped gas to the megapolis and the nearby areas on Monday, February 8, announced a marginal increase in its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) price by INR 1.50 per kg and domestic PNG (cooking gas) price INR 95 paise per unit in and around Mumbai effective from midnight.

This move is to partially cover increases in operational, manpower and fixed costs experienced during the pandemic caused by COVID-19.

Moreover, MGL’s cooking gas continues to deliver unmatched convenience, safety, reliability and environmental friendliness to consumers apart from being economical compared to the current price of Domestic LPG, the official added.

Accordingly, the revised prices of CNG and domestic piped natural gas (PNG) will be INR 49.40/kg and INR 29.85/SCM (Slab 1) and INR 35.45/SCM (Slab 2) respectively, it said.

Despite the hike, CNG is cheaper by 62 per cent and 41 per cent compared to petrol and diesel, respectively.

Meanwhile, fuel prices across the metros remained unchanged for the third consecutive day on Monday, February 8.

In Mumbai, petrol price remained unchanged at INR 93.49 per litre. The cost of diesel too was unchanged for three consecutive days at INR 83.99 a litre.
