After Mumbai witnessed this season’s coldest morning on Friday, January 29, with the minimum temperature plummeting to 14.8 degree Celsius due to the cold winds from northern parts of the country, the regional meteorological department said it did not expect much change on Saturday, January 30.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded Mumbai’s minimum temperature at 16 degree Celsius, a slight higher than yesterday. However, the IMD has predicted that the temperature will hover around 15 degree Celsius for the next two to three days.

Besides Mumbai, its adjoining areas also felt the chilly weather, which, as per the IMD, is due to the northerly winds. On Saturday morning, January 30, Thane recorded the minimum temperature of 18.8 degree Celsius.

According to a tweet by KS Hosalikar, Deputy Director General, western region, IMD, the temperatures in Central Maharashtra continues to be cooler as compared to rest. “Vidarbha as per forecast indicated drop in temperature at isolated places with Gondia at 9.2°C. The trend is likely to continue next 24 hrs as per IMD model guidance,” he added.

Besides this, temperature drop was also recorded in other parts of the state including Jalgaon (11.5 degree Celsius), Nasik (13 degree Celsius), Malegaon (11.8 degree Celsius), Nagpur (13.5 degree Celsius) Satara (14.6 degree Celsius), MWR (14.3 degree Celsius), Pune (12.4 degree Celsius), Baramati (15.2 degree Celsius) and Aurangabad (14.1 degree Celsius), Wardha (12.8 degree Celsius), the IMD said.

On Saturday, January 30, IMD's Santacruz observatory (that represents western suburbs) recorded a minimum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius, while the Colaba observatory (represents south Mumbai) recorded a minimum temperature of 19 degrees Celsius.

However, as per IMD GFS guidance, minimum temperature in North Maharashtra will continue to be lower for the next 48 hours at 10-12 degree Celsius with gradual rise possibly including same trend in Mumbai and Thane at 16-18 degree Celsius, said Hoslikar.

Meanwhile, it was observed that the minimum temperature in Mumbai suburbs dropped below 20 degrees Celsius since the beginning of the week.
