In a major announcement for Kalyan-Dombivli residents, the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) on Tuesday, decided to prohibit the movement of people going to Mumbai for work May 8 onwards. The civic body stated that the government employees, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) staffers and persons working in government hospitals from the KDMC area will be provided accommodation in Mumbai itself by the BMC.

As of May 5, the Kalyan-Dombivli area recorded 224 cases of coronavirus. Of which, 147 are undergoing treatment, three are dead and 74 have recovered from the disease. The reason behind the recent move by KDMC is that 60 of the COVID-19 patients were persons who travelled to work to Mumbai. In order to curb further spread in the KDMC area, KDMC Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi decided to restrict Kalyan-Dombivli residents from going to Mumbai for work.

The people working in banks and private offices in Mumbai, on the other hand, have been directed to make their own accommodation arrangements in the city. Once they are in the Mumbai area, they cannot return to the areas falling under the jurisdiction of KDMC.

Currently, 2,500 persons engaged in essential services travel every day to work in Mumbai. The KDMC has asked both the public and private sector employees working in Mumbai to send their details such as name, mobile no., Aadhaar card, address, office address to kdmc.covid19.gov@gmail.com and kdmc.covid19.pvt@gmail.com respectively.
