Lockdown in Mumbai and Pune might extend until May 30: CM Uddhav Thackeray hints

In a recently held meeting with leaders of other political parties, Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Uddhav Thackeray said that the state has surpassed one of the crucial stages in April, but had to face two more stages in this coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Addressing the same, he hinted that this could need some more days and a possible extension of the lockdown. Based on their discussion, the lockdown in Mumbai and Pune could extend until May 30, 2020.

The crucial discussion today about tackling coronavirus cases in Maharashtra was discussed along with leaders of 18 other political parties. The meeting focusing on finding solutions and measures which need to be implemented across several cities to contain the spread of coronavirus.

During the discussion, the members focused on the days ahead, when the CM hinted that there might be a need for one more lockdown extension in Mumbai and Pune Metropolitan regions respectively, post the current lockdown (after May 17, 2020).

It is also said that the state government is not expecting a downward trend in the number of coronavirus cases, in the current lockdown. In fact, the numbers could see an exponential spike in the coming weeks and officials aim to send the migrants back home from various districts.

As of May 7, 2020, the tally of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra has reached 17974, with 1216 cases added in one day. A total of 3301 patients recovered and have been discharged from hospitals across the state. Mumbai also crossed the 11,000-mark on Thursday and the count in the city increased to 11,394.
