An update from the state health ministry, which was released on April 20, 2020, mentioned that 466 new cases were identified in the state, taking the total in Maharashtra to 4666. Further, 9 deaths were reported on Monday, taking the death toll to 232. 572 patients were also discharged today.
The jump was also witnessed in Mumbai, where the number of cases crossed the 3000-mark, increasing to 3032 cases. The number of deaths in the city has increased to 139.
Reports stated that on Monday alone, 30 new cases were identified in Dharavi slums taking the total to 168 and 11 were reported dead. Further, two employees from BMC's Disaster Management Cell tested positive, owing to which the entire BMC office has been sealed and Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has home quarantined. Reports confirm that 53 journalists from Mumbai also tested positive and all of them have been kept under isolation.

Keeping these numbers in mind, the municipal officials in Mumbai have identified some more containment zones and have sealed 721 areas in the city. Further, the entire Mira-Bhayandar municipality will observe a lockdown for 4 days.
