On April 20, Mumbai Live had reported that two staffers from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Disaster Control Room had tested positive. Now three more staffers from the central disaster control room have tested positive, taking the total number of positive patients from the department to five. As per reports, all three were involved in housekeeping work and are contacts of two staffers who had tested positive over the last weekend.

After the two cases emerged, the civic administration decided to test all those working in the disaster control room. The test results revealed three of them to be positive. One of the three patients is a Worli resident, which has reported the maximum number of patients in the city so far.

A senior BMC official stated that all the three that were tested positive were asymptomatic and have been shifted into a COVID-19 care centre on Worli. He added that they have fumigated the disaster control room and most of the operations have been shifted to the back-up disaster control room in Parel.

In the meantime, all the staffers working within the civic body's disaster control department will be quarantined for a few days. The municipal corporation is planning to take over a hotel in Dadar which will serve as a temporary residence for the staff. This will ensure that they do not have to travel back to their homes.

While one of the patients is from Worli, the other two are from Wadala and Thane and had been travelling to work daily.

As of April 24, 12:30 pm, Maharashtra has recorded 6,711 cases of COVID-19. Among which, 4,205 cases are from Mumbai, i.e. almost 62 per cent of the total cases in the state. While Mumbai still remains the hotspot of coronavirus, the city's worst affected areas have received some respite in the past couple of days.
