Maharashtra has been the worst-affected state with 5,945 Coronavirus cases being recorded as of April 23, 2:30 pm. In Maharashtra, Mumbai is the epicentre of the pandemic, with 3,683 positive cases being reported so far. Looking at the rise in the number of cases in the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had declared 813 containment zones across Mumbai by April 20.

However, as conditions in some of the areas of the city have started improving, the civic body has started releasing containment zones. Amid the chaos and panic set in the city, this news comes as a relief to Mumbaikars. Currently, the civic body has released 83 of the total 813 containment zones across the city.

Notably, nine containment zones from the G-South ward have been released after no new cases from these areas emerged in the last 10 days. G-South has been the worst-affected ward in Mumbai with 487 coronavirus cases being recorded so far. 

G-South ward consists of areas such as Prabhadevi and Worli, which were termed as hotspots and were sealed by the BMC. After being termed as containment zones, the residents in the area were braced with stringent regulations. As no new cases have emerged from the nine zones, the residents will breathe a sigh of relief.

Here are the nine zones:

  • Adarsh Nagar
  • Siddhi Prabha Building
  • Worli Police Camp
  • Sati Aasra
  • Utkarsh Building 
  • BDD Chawl
  • Lodha World One
  • Anand Chhaya Building
  • Ahuja Building

These nine zones are home for close to 4,000 people and 48 people had tested positive in these areas. Meanwhile, the shutdown in containment zones such as Worli-Koliwada, Jijamata Nagar, and Janata Colony is set to be continued.
