Amidst the landfall of Cyclone Tauktae across the state of Maharashtra, several trees were uprooted in Mumbai as a result of the gusty winds.

Several incidents were reported of the same due to which Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has allocated manpower, resources and materials to remove the same from the streets across the city.

However, speaking about the same, Former Corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar stated, "Our team is working in different areas of the ward, collecting felled trees and transferring them to the end of the road near Jane Garden and informing BMC about it. They will take it from there later, as there are many trees that have been cut down and are being picked up. It will take 3 to 4 days to complete the work,"

Many trees and branches have fallen on the premises of housing societies, which, as per BMC rules, require permission from the civic body to collect it with some nominal charges. In view of the natural calamity, Ghosalkar is working to lift the fallen branches and trees in Mumbai for free.

On the other hand, earlier on Monday, May 17, the Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai was damaged by strong winds after the onset of Cyclone Tauktae. Apart from this, the Sharad Pawar Gymkhana at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) was also hit, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) informed.

The sightscreen towards the famous North Stand at Wankhede Stadium fell, as a result of the gusts of wind. A similar incident had taken place earlier during the 2011 World Cup. However, no one was injured in the current accident and it is understood that the sight screen will be rebuilt soon.
