The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official who had tested positive for coronavirus, passed away on Wednesday, April 29. The deceased, Madhukar Haryan was an inspector in the Assessment Department of the BMC.

The civic body took Twitter to offer their condolences. 

"Our very own, Shri Madhukar Haryan (Inspector, Assessment Dept, BMC) passed away today. He had devoted himself in the service of Mumbaikars & the needy. May his soul rest in peace. Our thoughts & prayers are with the Haryan family. He tested COVID +ve," the tweet said.

As per BMC, the death toll in Mumbai increased to 270 with 26 casualties being recorded on Wednesday. One of the deceased in Mumbai included BMC inspector Madhukar Haryan. As of April 30, 6,644 people in Mumbai have tested positive.

Meanwhile, as the number of cases in the city is on a rise, the civic body has taken measures to ensure that the spread is curbed. One of the strategies by BMC is a cluster containment strategy. The civic officials are planning on sealing large areas around containment zones in such parts of the ward to curb cluster spread. The residents in these sealed clusters will not be allowed to leave and outsiders will be prohibited from entering till every person in the cluster is tested for COVID-19.

Along with this, after three police officers succumbed to the coronavirus, Mumbai police personnel aged above 55-years and those having existing ailments have been asked to stay home. The option for paid leave was made available on Monday by Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh. All three policemen were 50 plus.
