Increasing COVID-19 cases in the state have raised concerns once again for the government. The Centre on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, released a list of top 10 cities in India which have been the most affected with this wave of coronavirus. Out of the 10 districts, nine were from Maharashtra. Observing this rise, the state government and the local civic bodies have taken strict action to ensure the citizens follow the rules. Fines have been planned if people flout the norms.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has also stated that if the people do not comply to the rules or show support in this situation, the government will have no option but to impose a lockdown as it would seem like an option to curb the spread. Addressing the same, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope also confirmed that lockdown in the state would be possible if the cases do not come under control.
