Maharashtra's Minister of State for Tourism, Aditi Tatkare, on Sunday, November 15, 2020, informed that the decision to reopen monuments in the state has not been taken yet by the government. The announcement was made after a letter was sent on Friday, November 13, addressed to CM Uddhav Thackeray, by Aurangabad's association of tourist guides.

As per the communication, the association demanded that the monuments across the state be reopened for tourists as it would help boost the sector and also resume earnings for businessmen, traders and the people associated with the profession. Currently, all the historical monuments and locations have been shut for the last many months due to the COVID-19 lockdown, and the people associated with the tourism business have been affected by the same

Sharing more information, Aditi Tatkare stated that she will not be able to comment regarding the matter as the decision is pending and the discussions are yet to be held. Aurangabad Collector Sunil Chavan further added that the requests have come from the people who rely on the sector for their daily bread and butter, and several members from the sector are facing problems including the hotel industry, as there is no scope to visit any historical site. Keeping this in mind, a proposal is being prepared by the district administration and will be presented to the government hoping a positive decision is taken.

Meanwhile, officials state that the Aurangabad circle of the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has also expressed their support and will write to the government stating that they are prepared for reopening the monuments and permitting the same would benefit many in the state.

Expressing his thought, AIMIM leader from Aurangabad Imtiaz Jaleel took to Twitter to state that the people regularly travel to the historical places, but they are not able to do so, since the monuments have reopened, due to which the travel and hotel industry is facing the impact.
