Deduct the salary of officers not operating in Marathi: Reforms Committee Chairman
SHARES

Two months ago, Maharashtra government had made Marathi mandatory in government offices and a circular stating the same was passed in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). However, even after the mandate set by BMC, some officers have not followed the regulation and so, the Reforms Committee Chairman has ordered that no English paper in the office shall be considered valid.

If any officer denies working in Marathi, then their monthly salary will be deducted or their promotion will be stalled.

The Reforms Committee had earlier held a meeting where a major topic was discussed in English. Following the meeting, Shiv Sena leader Raju Pednekar strongly criticised it. He questioned the authorities that if Marathi had been made compulsory for all offices then why was the topic discussed in English. The development plan of Mumbai is also in English and Shiv Sena demanded it to be in Marathi.

In response, the Reforms Committee Chairman Dilip Lande instructed the civic body to conduct all the work in Marathi only and the signature too must be done in Marathi. English must not be used in the office and the ones not abiding by the order will face a monthly salary deduction.
