According to the Maharashtra health department, the number of Delta Plus cases of coronavirus in the state has risen to 103.

This statement comes after 27 more cases of Delta plus was detected in Maharashtra from the samples sent for genome sequencing in July.

The fresh batch of cases has been mainly identified in the Vidarbha region. Of the new cases, six each were detected in Gadchiroli and Amravati, five in Nagpur, four in Ahmednagar, three in Yavatmal, two in Nashik and one in Bhandara district, the department said.

Moreover, the first batch of samples sent for genome sequencing tested at Kasturba hospital in Mumbai detected nearly 65 per cent with the Delta variant.

So far, at least five deaths in the state have been identified with the Delta-plus variant.

Meanwhile, the state recorded a total of 3,643 new coronavirus positive cases on Monday, the lowest after February 15 this year, and 105 deaths while 6,795 patients recovered. The number of active cases in Maharashtra fell below the 50,000-mark to 49,924. Maharashtra had reported 3,365 new cases on February 15.

The overall tally of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra rose to 64,28,294 and the death count to 1,36,067.
