Not taking cognizance of the imposition of Section 144 CrPC in Mumbai over the weekend, Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) amid the approaching local body elections in Maharashtra, addressed a gathering in Mumbai on Saturday, December 11, stated reports.

Despite Mumbai police imposing the restrictions wherein rallies, morchas, processions etc of either persons or vehicles had been prohibited, the rally was held. An official on Sunday, December 12, however mentioned that the Mumbai Police has registered an FIR against the organizers of Owaisi's rally for violating the norms, highlighted accounts.

Based on narratives, sources in AIMIM claimed that the MVA government put in the restrictions to hinder the party’s Tiranga rally at Chandivali on Saturday. Owaisi in his address mentioned that considerable restrictions were put in place for their rally, stated accounts.

Owaisi further added that he wanted to see what the government will do when Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader arrives in the city for a rally on December 28, reports stated. Owaisi also posed a question as to whether the government will impose Section 144 of CrPC or cite Omicron as a reason for imposing the restrictions.

According to reports, Nawab Malik, NCP Minister added to the incident by elucidating that whilst everyone can conduct rallies, in a pandemic, care must be taken and the restrictions imposed must be adhered to.

On the other hand, on Sunday, December 12, crowds flocked to Girgaum Chowpatty in spite of the restrictions.
