Dharavi reports 84 fresh cases on Friday; tally climbs to 1,145

While the slum area recorded 84 new cases on Friday, no deaths were reported from the area throughout the day

With 84 new cases being reported in Dharavi on Friday, the tally of COVID-19 case in the area has now reached 1,145. As per the state health department data, 53 people have succumbed to coronavirus in Dharavi so far. However, no new death was reported in the last 24 hours.

Between Monday (May 11) and Friday (May 15), Dharavi reported over 286 cases. On Monday, 57 cases were reported whereas 46 cases were reported on Tuesday. Later, on Wednesday, Dharavi reported 66 new cases, taking the tally of COVID-19 patients in Asia's largest slums past the 1,000-mark. The total number of coronavirus patients in Dharavi on Wednesday had climbed to 1,028. Further, two deaths and 33 new cases were reported on Thursday in Dharavi.

Coming back to fresh cases reported on Friday, a senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said that the new cases had been found in Shastri Nagar, Kumbharwada, Dharavi Cross Road, Azad Nagar, Kamraj Nehru Nagar, Mukund Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Indira Nagar, and some other localities of Dharavi.

Alongside, 14 fresh cases were reported from Mahim on Friday, taking the tally of COVID-19 patients in the area to 176. The new cases were reported from Cadell Road, Mahim Causeway, Mori Road among other localities of Mahim. Neighbouring area Dadar reported 11 new cases, taking the total number of cases in the area to 150.

Mumbai, on Friday, had recorded 34 deaths and 933 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the COVID-19 tally of the state capital to 17,671. So far, 655 people have succumbed to coronavirus in Mumbai.

Of the 34 deaths on Friday, 16 patients had co-morbidities. 21 patients were male and 13 were female. Also, three deceased patients were below 40 years, 13 people were above 60 years whereas 18 were between 40 to 60 years.
