On Friday, December 17, nearly 304 Jawhar tribals at Zap village at Palghar district attained the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination, reports stated. This is attributed to the unique drone service, brought into force by the health department of the Palghar district administration.

They were able to transport 300 doses of the coronavirus vaccine, highlighted accounts. In a mere 10 minutes, the drone 25km by road flew from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Jawhar to Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Zap village.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, took to Twitter to applaud the said initiative. He said, “I congratulate the officials and staff of the Public Health Department and the Palghar District Administration for successfully making vaccines available to remote areas of Palghar through drones.”

According to reports, the drone initiative was possible owing to the efforts of Blue Infinity Innovation Lab and IIFL Foundation that collaborated with the Maharashtra Public Health Department. Some accounts claim that Dr Pradeep Vyas additional chief secretary (health) brought to light that the drone can carry medical items of 5kg.

District Collector Dr Manik Gursal who coordinated the experimental trial remarked that it was conducted successfully, claiming that it was probably the first of its kind in Maharashtra covering 20 km, mentioned accounts.
