The electricity connections of hostels run by Social Justice department have been scrapped just ahead of examinations. This move of the authorities has put the future of Backward Class students on the stake and students are reeling under tremendous pressure.

The social justice department runs three hostels for Backward Class students in BDD chawl number 116 and 118 in Worli area. As the State government has not paid electricity bills from last 15 years, the bill inflated to Rs 18 lakh. This forced the concerned authorities to cut the electricity of these hostels where 260 students, both boys and girls, are staying for their studies. All these students are studying in different streams of knowledge such as pharmacy, engineering, arts and commerce, medicine and other vocational courses.

Meanwhile, hostel superintendent Sanjay Kadam informed that hostel authorities have met the concerned officers and electricity supply will be restored by night.
