Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari announced that the Raj Bhavan will remain closed for citizens till April 30. The citizens are allowed to take the tour of the governor’s house. However, the same has been suspended in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.

Moreover, people who had confirmed bookings for the tour will be accommodated later. They will be communicated about the same, Governor Koshyari said.

"The tour of the sprawling complex of the Governor’s residence is well patronised and 20 people are let in every day after prior booking,” an official was quoted in media reports as saying.

This is being done to stop the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19 in an effort to not reach stage 3 of community transmission. The cases in India and Maharashtra are increasing on a daily basis.

Earlier on March 31, more than 50 people were tested positive of the coronavirus or COVID-19 in Mumbai, taking the toll in Maharashtra to 332 while the death roll remains at 12.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a nationwide lockdown for 21-days in the view of the increasing cases of the coronavirus. Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had also imposed curfew in Maharashtra while placing the state under complete lockdown under March 31.

In the wake of the migrant exodus due to the lockdown, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari earlier said that the migrant workers and labourers who are stranded in Maharashtra due to the nationwide lockdown should be provided with food, shelter and medicine while stating that the government officials must ensure that no person goes to bed without food.

The Maharashtra Governor and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a high-level meeting to review the preparedness for containing the spread of the deadly virus which has claimed 12 lives in the state.
