Amid the increasing cases of the coronavirus or COVID-19 in the state, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reviewed the preparedness for containing the spread of the deadly virus which has claimed 10 lives in the state while the death toll in India has hiked to 32, as of March 31.

In the high-level meeting, along with the Maharashtra Governor and the Chief Minister, state Tourism and Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray was also present. Senior government and police officers were also part of the review meeting amid the coronavirus outbreak in the state.

Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari said that the migrant workers and labourers who are stranded in Maharashtra due to the nationwide lockdown should be provided with food, shelter and medicine while stating that the government officials must ensure that no person goes to bed without food.

The Governor also advised that immediate financial assistance be given to the labourers, especially those who are construction workers. The migrant workers and labourers have been the worst-hit due to the 21-days nationwide lockdown announced by Narendra Modi as they can’t survive in cities if they don’t have work.

Governor Koshyari further that steps should be taken to ensure the safety of police personnel on the field along with the cleaning staff and health workers while calling for coordination with the non-government organisations helping out amid the coronavirus outbreak, the Deccan Herald reported.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray informed that the agreements for food and shelter for migrant workers and labourers have been made at the camps while adding that the state government was waiting for additional personal protection kits from the centre and the same will be distributed to the needy.

Earlier, Uddhav Thackeray had asked all District Collectors to search for those stranded including pilgrims, labours and others and make sure that they are taken care of amid the coronavirus outbreak.
