There are many cowsheds and stables along the banks of the river at various places in Mumbai. Excreta from stables and cowsheds are discharged into nearby riverbeds. Hence the rivers in Mumbai have become drains. Former BJP group leader Prabhakar Shinde has demanded that excreta from various cowsheds and stables in Mumbai should be handed over to the park department of that place and used as fertiliser. He has made the above demand in the letter sent to the BMC Commissioner.
Not only dung and urine, but also dead bodies of animals are thrown into the river. After coming to the notice of the residents living near the coast, they made complaints to the civic body. However, nominal punitive action is taken against the stable owners by the BMC. These types of incidents are happening frequently as strict action is not taken against the owners of the stables.
