Weekly farmers’ market soon to take place in Mumbai

The farmers will be provided with the place bearing in mind that the traffic in the city is not adversely affected. The mayor has instructed the Municipal Commissioner and all the Assistant Commissioners to begin the principal work as soon as possible.

Mumbai Mayor, Vishwanath Mahadeshwar recently revealed that in order to assist the farmers, a weekly farmers’ market will be soon organised in Mumbai. However, the primary objective would be to find a piece of land for the market to take place, after which the time, date and place will be finalised. The farmers will be able to sell their product at a fixed price as per their readiness.

The farmers will be provided with the place bearing in mind that the traffic in the city is not adversely affected. The mayor has instructed the Municipal Commissioner and all the Assistant Commissioners to begin the principal work as soon as possible.

A joint meeting of the Assistant Commissioner including the Deputy Commissioner of Municipal Corporation under the chairmanship of Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, took place on Tuesday. The Mayor instructed the municipal authorities to provide the farmers with weekly markets to sell their crops across Mumbai.

Earlier, the farmers had protested by throwing away their crops in front of the Mantralaya after which Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and BMC commissioner Ajoy Mehta organised a meeting where the formation of a weekly market for farmers was discussed.
