As Diwali draws closer, people throughout the country buy new clothes and move towards the celebration of the victory of goodness over evil. As a part of the celebrations of the festival, it is a tradition that people prepare sweets and snacks and eat it along with their family. Since it is not possible for many people to make the sweets and snacks themselves, they buy it from various shops in the city.

However, like every year, there have been several instances of adulteration in the Diwali snacks and in a recent raid, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confiscated adulterated snacks from places in Mumbai. FDA Commissioner Dr. Pallavi Darade told Mumbai Live that adulterated snacks worth ₹3,00,000 were found and confiscated from shops in Dharavi, Kurla, and Borivali.

Accordingly, 12 samples of the snacks have been sent to forensic laboratories for further investigation and a report for the same will be provided to FDA.

As a part of the awareness drive, on October 19 and 20, FDA had organised a raid at shops in Dharavi, Kurla, and Borivali where they found adulterated goods worth ₹3 lakh. Accordingly, the samples from the three locations have been sent for investigation and as soon as the reports for the same are prepared, the authority will take appropriate action against the accused.

In the meantime, Darade has asked the people to stay aware of the adulteration and has told them to contact FDA at 1800222365 if they find anything suspicious around them.
