Notable producer and director Anurag  Kashyap has deleted his Twitter accounts and in his last tweets he mentioned that his family was getting threats and he felt that he was unable to speak his mind.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and other eminent personalities from the film fraternity had written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 23 citing their concern on the increasing incidents of mob lynching in the country and how the slogan 'Jai Shree Ram' has now become a 'war cry'.

In the last tweet by Anurag Kashyap, he stated that his family has been receiving death threats and that he will be leaving Twitter. In his last tweet, he said, "When your parents start to get calls and your daughter online threats you know that no one wants to talk. There isn't going to be a reason or rationale. Thugs will rule and thuggery will be a new way of life. Congratulations everyone on this new Indian and I hope you all thrive".

He had also taken to twitter to share about the threats that his family has been getting over the past few days, "When your parents start to get calls and your daughter gets online threats you know that no one wants to talk. There isn't going to be reason or rationale. Thugs will rule and thuggery will be the new way of life. Congratulations everyone on this new India & hope you all thrive”.

Twitteratis had mixed reaction as some of them asked him to return and others trolled him. Here are some reactions:

Notably, Anurag Kashyap had sought help from PM Modi when his daughter was receiving rape threats in May 2019. In May 2019, a troll had threatened to rape his daughter and Anurag had taken to Twitter to talk about this. He had also lodged an FIR against the troll in this matter.

There are many who have come out in support of Kashyap and asked him to come back on Twitter. One of them is Activist Rahul Easwar , who said, "Very sad that Sri Anurag Kashyap deleted his Twitter. It is sad & bad for democracy when we cant voice our opinion with out fear. I disagree with Anurag Kashyap ji on 99% of issues, but his Right to say is our Responsibility as a Nation. Anurag Kashyap .. God bless Jai Hind”.

Filmaker Shekhar Kapur too reverberated the same views as he tweeted, “Terrible that someone as courageous creative and inspiring filmmaker as @anuragkashyap72 has had to leave @Twitter because of personal malicious threats to his family, just because he expressed his own beliefs. I often disagree with him, but that does not mean I don’t admire him”.

There are many fans and supporters that have come out in favour of Anurag Kashyap and even requesting him to come back on the micro blogging site.

However, there are also people who are questioning his move and even mocking him.

CBFC member Ashoke Pandit tweeted, “#AnuragKashyap exited twitter earlier when people called him jinxed maker, then when his #BombayVelvet was a disaster & now when his lies are exposed. Will surely come back before his next release. This is how #UrbanNaxals remain in news.”
